PE Practice Support Guide

Hello and welcome to PE Practice, a new study tool that is striving to become the best at helping Power Engineers pass any power engineering exam and achieve their desired certification.

Getting Started

The first thing required to use PE Practice is an account. Once you have created one you can purchase a subscription to the practice exams for the certification level you are studying for.

Purchased practice exam subscriptions are displayed on your dashboard. Each time you complete a practice test, the dashboard will update showing you a snapshot of your overall performance across all practice exam sets and any you are currently subscribed to. You can view more detailed stats for any practice exam set that has an active subscription by clicking 'Analytics'. This will also show your progress for each unit or chapter.

Customizing Practice Exams

When you have an active subscription you will see the available practice exams on your dashboard. If you click on the 'New Test' button it will pop-up a window that has options to customize your practice exam. There are two ways to customize your practice exams. The first is deciding between a Custom Test or an Exam Simulation.

Custom Tests are shorter, untimed tests where you get to choose which units or chapters you want included in the test and how many questions you would like per chosen unit or chapter.

Exam Simulation is meant to simulate the SOPEEC exam conditions as closely as possible. It randomly draws the same number of questions and enforces the same time limit as what you can expect for your SOPEEC exam.

Starting Practice Exams

After you have customized the exam to your liking simply click 'Start Test' or 'Start Exam' and a new practice exam will be generated. Once you have completed the exam you will be directed to the results page. This page will show you your overall result and a breakdown of each unit or chapter included in the test and your scores. You can also review the exam to see which questions you got right or wrong.

Targeted Practice Exams

When you are on the analytics page for a practice exam set, units or chapters with an average less than 80% are highlighted at the top of the page. Below this list is the Quick Practice section where you can choose 2, 4, or 8 questions per weak unit and click 'Start Practice' to generate a test that focuses exclusively on your weakest areas, allowing for rapid improvement.

Install PE Practice as an App

PE Practice is a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can install it on supported devices for faster access, a full-screen experience, and its own app icon. No app store is needed. Installing the app is optional, and offline use still requires you to prepare each practice exam set from your dashboard before you go offline.
Google Chrome (Desktop)
  1. Open PE Practice in Chrome at powerengineeringpractice.com.
  2. Click the install icon in the address bar (a monitor with a down arrow), or click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select "Install PE Practice" or "Install app" and confirm.
Google Chrome (Android)
  1. Open PE Practice in Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap "Add to Home screen" or "Install app" and confirm.
  4. PE Practice will appear on your home screen as an app.
Safari (iPhone & iPad)
  1. Open PE Practice in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an up arrow) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen".
  4. Tap "Add" in the top-right corner. PE Practice will appear on your home screen.
Safari (Mac)
  1. Open PE Practice in Safari (macOS Sonoma or later).
  2. Click File in the menu bar, then select "Add to Dock".
  3. Confirm by clicking "Add". The app will appear in your Dock.
Microsoft Edge
  1. Open PE Practice in Edge.
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select "Apps" → "Install PE Practice" and confirm.
Note: Firefox does not currently support installing web apps. Use one of the browsers listed above for the best experience.

Using PE Practice Offline

PE Practice supports low-connectivity and offline use by storing the data for prepared practice exam sets in your browser on this device. Follow the steps below before you go offline.
Prep before going offline
  1. (Optional) Install PE Practice as an app on your device for a faster, full-screen experience.
  2. While online, sign in to your account on the device and browser you will be using offline. Do not use incognito or private mode.
  3. Open the dashboard. On each practice exam set you want to use offline, click the yellow Offline Setup badge while you are still connected to the internet. When that badge changes to Offline Ready, that exam set has been prepared for offline use on this device and browser.
  4. (Optional) If you have already taken practice tests, click 'Analytics' if you want to be able to see your detailed stats while offline.
  5. *IMPORTANT* Do not sign out. Authentication can only be refreshed while online. You can close the browser tab and stay signed in, but when you want to use PE Practice offline, you must reopen it on the same device and browser you used in step 2.
What you can do offline
  • Open the app on the same device and browser you used to prepare the exam set.
  • Start and complete prepared practice exams. Your answers and results are saved locally. You will not see updated results on the dashboard until after you reconnect to the internet.
  • Review analytics pages that were already opened while you were online.
What requires an internet connection
  • Signing in on a new device or browser profile.
  • Purchasing or managing subscriptions.
  • Preparing a practice exam set for offline use.
  • Loading content that was not prepared on this device before going offline.
Taking a test offline
  1. Open PE Practice on the same device and browser you used during setup. If you stayed signed in and the exam set showed Offline Ready before you disconnected, the site can open in offline mode.
  2. Complete your practice tests as usual. Your progress is saved locally and will sync after you reconnect.
Reminder: Use the same device and browser that you used to take the tests offline. Private/Incognito tabs do not keep offline data.
Syncing your offline attempts
  • Reconnect to a stable connection and open PE Practice on the same device/browser.
  • Your results will sync automatically; you can confirm on the Dashboard.
  • If you do not see updates, wait 5 to 10 seconds and then refresh the page.
Troubleshooting
  • Stuck offline? Ensure you're not in Private/Incognito mode and that cookies/storage aren't blocked. Verify that your internet connection has been re-established.
  • Results didn't sync? Make sure you are online and no offline badge shows. Then try refreshing the page.
  • Switched devices? Offline attempts are stored locally. Reconnect and open PE Practice on the original device and browser to sync that data.
Note: Offline data is stored on your device's browser storage. Clearing site data or using a different browser profile will prevent offline use.

Managing Account

From your profile you can change your password and update your communications preference. You can also help us by using the Help us improve button and filling out the feedback. If you wish to have your account deleted and any data removed you can make a request to do so at support@powerengineeringpractice.com.

Managing Subscriptions

Subscriptions are managed via our payment processor Stripe. Once you successfully complete a purchase, Stripe will create a billing profile for you that can be used to view your active subscriptions, purchase history and cancel any active subscriptions. To access your Stripe billing portal, go to your profile page and click Manage Billing.

Free Trial & Welcome Discount

Every new account can take one free practice exam before subscribing. You pick a class, answer a short set of real exam questions, and review your results the same way paid users do. This lets you try the platform end-to-end with no payment required.

How to start: Simply create an account and you will be guided from there.

Your welcome discount: Once you complete the free trial test, you unlock 25% off your first subscription purchase. The discount is applied automatically on the checkout review page. You do not need to enter a code.

  • The welcome discount is one-time and applies only to your first paid subscription.
  • You will see the discount on the order summary at checkout before entering billing details.
  • If you created your account through a friend's referral link and completed the free trial test, the two combine into a 50% off welcome offer on your first purchase, applied automatically.

Referral Program

Every PE Practice account comes with its own referral link, created the moment you register. You can find it in the Referral Program card on your profile page and share it with friends or coworkers right away. You do not need to have bought anything first.

What your friend gets: When someone creates their account through your referral link, they get 25% off their first subscription purchase, applied automatically at checkout. Referral discounts apply only to first-time buyers. If the person has previously purchased a subscription, the discount will not apply.

What you get: Once your friend completes their first purchase, you will earn a 25% off reward code for your next subscription. We will send you an email letting you know, and the code itself will appear in the Your Rewards section of your profile page. To redeem it, copy the code from Your Rewards and paste it into the Promo Code field on the checkout review page, then click Apply.

Stacking with the free trial: If your friend signs up through your referral link and completes the free trial test before purchasing, their referral and welcome discounts combine into a 50% off welcome offer on their first purchase, applied automatically.
