This Privacy Policy describes how PB Web Apps Inc. ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses personal information when you use the PE Practice website (powerengineeringpractice.com), mobile apps, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

PB Web Apps Inc. is located in Calgary, Alberta, and is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and other applicable Alberta privacy legislation.

2. Scope

This Policy applies to personal information we collect, use, and disclose in connection with your use of the Service. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we do not control.

Children's privacy: The Service is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that such information has been collected, we will delete it promptly.

3. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account & profile

Name, email, password hash, phone number, subscription status, products owned.

Transactional

Purchase history, subscription term, billing amount, last 4 digits of credit card (via Stripe), refunds, invoices.

Usage & analytics

Pages viewed, actions taken, device/browser type, IP address, timestamps, performance logs.

Study data

Tests taken, scores, answers, timing, units/chapters attempted, feedback and reviews.

Support

Messages, attachments, and contact form submissions.

Cookies & storage

Identifiers used for secure sessions and faster loading. No personal information is stored in cookies. Cookie preferences may be managed through your browser or our cookie banner.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information unless required for payment processing or by law.

4. How we collect information

  • Directly from you when you create an account, make a purchase, take tests, or contact support.
  • Automatically through cookies, session and local storage, logs when you use the Service.
  • From third parties like payment processors (e.g., Stripe) for billing events, or authentication providers.

5. How we use information

We use information for:

  • Providing the Service: account creation, authentication, content delivery, test generation and grading.
  • Personalization & analytics: progress tracking, recommendations, performance insights, product improvement.
  • Billing & account management: purchases, subscriptions, invoicing, detecting fraud or abuse, preventing account sharing.
  • Security: preventing, detecting, and responding to security incidents.
  • Communications: transactional messages, service notices, and, where consent is provided, marketing communications.
  • Legal & compliance: enforcing Terms, complying with laws, tax and accounting.

Use and disclosure of personal information

We use and disclose personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected or as otherwise permitted or required by PIPA. The Act allows collection, use, or disclosure without consent in limited circumstances, including:

  • when necessary to protect an individual's interests and consent cannot be obtained
  • for investigations or legal proceedings
  • when the information is publicly available
  • when authorized by Alberta or federal legislation

We make reasonable efforts to ensure personal information is accurate and complete and retain it only as long as necessary for legal or business purposes.

6. Sharing of information

We share personal information with:

These providers are bound by contracts and process data only under our instructions. We may also share information to comply with applicable law, lawful requests, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

We do not sell personal information.

We may disclose personal information without consent where permitted under PIPA, including for investigations, legal proceedings, protection of individuals, or where otherwise authorized or required by law.

7. International data transfers

We may transfer personal information to service providers located outside Alberta, including the United States. When doing so, we ensure that comparable protections are in place as required under PIPA.

By using the Service, you consent to these transfers.

8. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Marketing preferences: You may opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link. Transactional messages will still be sent.

Access to personal information

You may submit a written request to:

  • access personal information in our custody
  • understand how your information has been used
  • learn to whom your information has been disclosed

We will respond within the timelines required by PIPA. Fees may apply as permitted by law.

Access may be refused where disclosure would:

  • threaten another person's safety
  • reveal another individual's personal information
  • reveal the identity of someone who provided information in confidence

We may also refuse access where information is privileged, commercially confidential, collected for an investigation, or otherwise protected by law.

Correction of personal information

You may request corrections to your personal information. We will either:

  • correct the information and notify relevant third parties, or
  • annotate the record to indicate that a correction was requested but not made

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. However, no security measures are completely effective.

Security of personal information

We maintain strict safeguards to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, copying, modification, or destruction. We recognize our legal and professional obligations to maintain confidentiality.

Data breach notification: If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta as required by PIPA.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted in the Service or sent to your account email. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
