Power engineer certification in PEI is regulated by the Power Engineers Board of Examiners under the Power Engineering Act and Regulations. You must hold a valid licence to operate power, heating, or refrigeration plants.

Licence Validity
PEI Power Engineer licences are valid for a maximum five-year period. All licences issued in the previous cycle expired December 31, 2024. Annual or periodic renewal is required to maintain your licence.

PEI has four classes (4th through 1st), following SOPEEC standards.

Pass mark: 65% or above. Applications must be submitted 48 hours before the exam date. Failed exams require a 90-day wait before retake (may be reduced if score was 49-64%).
